# The Twilight of the CMS | TPM Media Labs - Host: [labs.talkingpointsmemo.com](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/hosts/labs.talkingpointsmemo.com/) - Saved: July 15, 2011 (2011-07-15T20:27:04Z) - Record: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/050211de6e58/ - JSON: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/050211de6e58.json ## From the page (probably an excerpt, not Jamie's words) Instead of revolving around a monolithic central piece of software, we have adopted the paradigm of feature-as-app. Our frontpage: an app. Our slideshow: a different app. Article publishing: yet another app. You get the picture. At the heart is a simple and flexible API that digests manifold requests from the different applications. For example, Moveable Type is great at publishing entries and updating its database accordingly. Our new system will simply wrap the MT database in a cached layer and incorporate its content. Our new gallery app — currently active on the site — creates slideshows, writing its changes to central datastore as well. The frontpage maker reads from the API and is made aware of MT updates, galleries, and all other content that has passed through the system. ## Facts - Kind: [Page](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/kinds/page/) ## Saved the same week - [html5slides - A Google HTML5 slide template - Google Project Hosting](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/bfcc511b4d0e/) (code.google.com, July 14, 2011) - [An Oral History of Friday Night Lights](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/2e9e9ef8f199/) (grantland.com, July 15, 2011) - [Chuck Klosterman on Breaking Bad](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/da5c6b9d1501/) (grantland.com, July 15, 2011) - [The Power of Open](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/57f4d94a0732/) (thepowerofopen.org, July 15, 2011) - [Installing CrashPlan on a PogoPlug Pro](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/039dc1419533/) (opticality.com, July 16, 2011) ## Elsewhere - Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://labs.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/07/the-twilight-of-the-cms.php
