# Newsgator turns NetNewsWire free for everyone - Host: [tuaw.com](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/hosts/tuaw.com/) - Saved: January 9, 2008 (2008-01-09T20:00:00Z) - Record: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/078334a7a933/ - JSON: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/078334a7a933.json ## From the page (probably an excerpt, not Jamie's words) Filed under: Software, Cool tools, Freeware Wow. I don't know who hadn't bought NetNewsWire yet, but if you haven't, consider your wait vindicated: most of Newsgator's products, including NNW, Newsgator Online, and FeedDemon (the Windows version of the popular RSS reader) have all gone free with version 3.1.Brent Simmons, NNW's creator, is reportedly happy about the change, to say the least, and Newsgator isn't any less thrilled themselves-- they say that not only are they excited to spread the love around to everyone, but that they'll also be using "attention data" collected from the software (which hopefully sounds more ominous than it is... right?) to "deliver a better experience for everyone." Not so happy might be the folks who've paid for the products in the past-- Newsgator is offering an automatic refund to anyone who purchased them in the past 30 days, but anyone before that just has to live with the fact that they paid $30 to use the software at the time (not that it was a bad deal back then anyway). Those who subscribed to the Newsgator Online service will run out their current subscriptions, and then continue on without charge.Version 3.1 of NetNewsWire features an updated interface with new toolbar icons, some performance and memory enhancements, and the ability to archive news items as HTML files, viewable in any browser. It is now available, for a completely free download, over on Newsgator's site.Read ## Facts - Kind: [Page](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/kinds/page/) ## Same host - [Leopard Love: Apple boosts Calculator](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/62cb3456f4a0/) (tuaw.com, December 10, 2007) - [GPS dongle coming for iPhone](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/5ebb28e10929/) (tuaw.com, December 17, 2007) - [Parallels vs. VMWare: Benchmark results](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/016d68081d06/) (tuaw.com, December 19, 2007) - [IPhone firmware 1.1.3 breaks unlocks](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/cf6754c092df/) (tuaw.com, December 30, 2007) - [Macheist bundle completely unlocked](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/b4443874f5a0/) (tuaw.com, January 14, 2008) ## Saved the same week - [Why HD Won't Save Radio, And Why Fred Wilson Thinks It Will](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/5c23199cfe33/) (businessinsider.com, January 9, 2008) - [Jason Fried discusses Highrise, red flag words, opinionated companies, and benevolent dictators](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/6814cac285b4/) (37signals.com, January 9, 2008) - [Ask 37signals: Why did you restart Highrise?](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/276c6ec38650/) (37signals.com, January 9, 2008) - [Use Highrise cases to track internal staff](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/ea1350dce202/) (37signals.blogs.com, January 9, 2008) - [OpenID and DataPortability.org to gain major support](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/22b65fc97858/) (arstechnica.com, January 9, 2008) ## Elsewhere - Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.tuaw.com/2008/01/09/netgator-turns-netnewswire-free-for-everyone/
