Her exit was announced to staff Tuesday, but theres no word of a replacement yet. Brough was CEO of online dating network Allegran when hired by the travel brand in June 2009. Lonely Planets online innovation ecosystem manager Matt Cashmore, after returning home to Britain from working with the company in Melbourne, recently left to be book publisher Hachettes digital director. Lonely Planet, owned by BBC Worldwide, considers digital a big opportunity area. Aside from its core lonelyplanet.com website, it publishes dozens of its city guides in mobile app form, Android versions of which include augmented reality. When it made some of the apps free and halved the price of others during this years Icelandic volcano eruption, it found a 500 percent sales uplift - three million free app downloads in 24 hours and a knock-on boost to the paid apps. The publisher is being tapped by BBCWW to build a travel site on international-facing BBC.com. Lonely Planet 2009/10 profit was up by 5.1 ($8.11) million to 1.9 ($3.02) million, on 19.5 percent higher sales of 51.4 ($81.81) million. The BBC has been forbidden by its BBC Trust from making further acquisitions like Lonely Planet, though a disposal of Lonely Planet does not look on the cards. ## Facts - Kind: [Page](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/kinds/page/) ## Same host - [Facebook Buys File Sharing Service Drop.io](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/8bd75b7238ce/) (gigaom.com, November 1, 2010) - [Jume: Getting Things Done With Your Friends](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/130d7d231f5b/) (gigaom.com, November 2, 2010) - [Like Democracy, the Web Needs to be Defended, Its Creator Says](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/c38cd5e615d7/) (gigaom.com, November 19, 2010) - [ProPublica Takes Press+ Out For A Spin](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/7f37578e8730/) (gigaom.com, November 22, 2010) - [Like It or Not, WikiLeaks is a Media Entity: Tech News «](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/a84a8a391cfe/) (gigaom.com, December 5, 2010) ## Saved the same week - [HauteLook Brings Flash Sales to Facebook](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/b777bbab849b/) (bits.blogs.nytimes.com, November 24, 2010) - [HauteLook Brings Online Sample Sales To Facebook](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/243fcb7b5ceb/) (allfacebook.com, November 24, 2010) - [Nouriel Roubini’s Introduction to Christopher Whalen’s Book, ‘Inflated: How Money and Debt Built the American Dream’ Published by Wiley, 2010](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/9c0a87dc3ec5/) (economonitor.com, November 24, 2010) - [New House Climate Czar](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/c3cfc39fcf63/) (talkingpointsmemo.com, November 24, 2010) - [Sidestep Automatically Reroutes Your Mac's Traffic When Unsecured](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/3a84c4a3bb2e/) (lifehacker.com, November 24, 2010) ## Elsewhere - Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://gigaom.com/2010/11/24/419-lonely-planets-digital-director-brough-leaving/
