# Patent troll Sable pays up, dedicates all its patents to the public!

[Patent Trolls](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patent_troll) are often successful because companies do the math and decide it is easier and cheaper to pay them than to fight. Cloudflare however decided not to play ball. 

> In the end, Sable agreed to pay Cloudflare $225,000, grant Cloudflare a royalty-free license to its entire patent portfolio, and to dedicate its patents to the public, ensuring that Sable can never again assert them against another company.

They won the filing **and** they made Sable dissolve their patent rights. Impressive stuff. I also love that they used crowd-sourcing with their [Project Jengo](https://www.cloudflare.com/jengo/) to help fight this troll. 👏
