# Don't tackle your own good news - Host: [signalvnoise.com](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/hosts/signalvnoise.com/) - Saved: June 10, 2008 (2008-06-10T15:01:00Z) - Record: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/0daa728f9c10/ - JSON: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/0daa728f9c10.json ## From the page (probably an excerpt, not Jamie's words) When we launched the new Backpack, we were going to increase the prices across the board. It was a big overhaul and we felt the improvements were worth it. But at the last minute, we changed our minds and decided to let old customers keep using Backpack the same way for the same price (or less). Why? We didnt want the excitement of the new launch to be drowned out by customers upset by a rate hike. We feared the new Backpacks good vibes would get hijacked by pricing naysayers. So we took that possibility off the table. The result: A decent number of people thanked us for grandfathering them at the same (or a lower) rate. But to most it was a non-story. And in this case, a non-story was a big win. It let the spotlight shine on the good news instead. Lesson learned: Dont tackle your own good news. The blogosphere can be an unforgiving place. Take pains to eliminate any negative aspects that might overshadow a launch or other good news. ## Facts - Kind: [Page](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/kinds/page/) ## Same host - [A peek at InOut, an internal app at 37signals](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/52718d8e3954/) (signalvnoise.com, April 17, 2008) - [Why I love working with family people](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/adabc4837b81/) (signalvnoise.com, April 24, 2008) - [Start a business, not a startup](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/acc7c19ac023/) (signalvnoise.com, April 25, 2008) - [Web designers should do their own HTML/CSS](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/25f7029b1f87/) (signalvnoise.com, June 5, 2008) - [Finding the natural size for your company](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/71b75d46a17c/) (signalvnoise.com, June 6, 2008) ## Saved the same week - [Canon launches EOS 1000D Rebel XS](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/4a0b01e6a9a9/) (dpreview.com, June 10, 2008) - [Adobe Lightroom Exchange](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/4574722f5238/) (lightroom-news.com, June 10, 2008) - [This Is A Mistake](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/f90cfc6083b2/) (avc.blogs.com, June 10, 2008) - [Adium releases new beta version, now even more psychic](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/6b75b8afaa85/) (tuaw.com, June 10, 2008) - [Paul Steiger's ProPublica Opens For (Non-Profit) Business](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/a29c83a7fbb7/) (gigaom.com, June 10, 2008) ## Elsewhere - Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://signalvnoise.com/posts/1070-dont-tackle-your-own-good-news
