"title": "Andy Warhol, Clay Christensen, and Vitalik Buterin walk into a bar – O’Reilly",
"note": "O'Reilly himself sharing some framing on the web3 ecosystem. He tells this story through multiple personalities.\n\n> Buterin: So one way to understand what we’re working on in the crypto world is that we’re building new mechanisms for solving the problems of consensus and coordination and legitimacy. And that’s also exactly what “the market” is doing when it tries to settle the messy question of value. So when we talk about building a new financial system with crypto, we’re not talking about just rebuilding the plumbing of the existing system with fancy new pipes, we’re questioning how value is created and who gets it.\n\nAnd a great reminder with this quote from Gates.\n\n> Bill Gates once said, “[We always overestimate the change](https://www.inc.com/damon-brown/this-perfect-bill-gates-quote-will-frame-your-next-decade-of-success.html) that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will occur in the next ten. Don’t let yourself be lulled into inaction.” That doesn’t mean to rush out and buy the latest meme stock, meme coin, or overpriced NFT. But it does mean that it’s important to engage with the social, legal, and economic implications of crypto. [The world advances one bubble at a time](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_Revolutions_and_Financial_Capital). What matters is that [what’s left behind when the bubble pops](https://www.oreilly.com/radar/why-its-too-early-to-get-excited-about-web3/) makes the world richer in possibilities for the next generation to build on.\n\nMy bet is that there are foundational elements that will have big change in the next ten year.",
