This chain of data better informs that that private data that many dismiss as "just" used for marketing purposes, is often resold and combined with other data for reasons that many people would object to. **We need serious privacy regulation.** Although it is notable that even GDPR may not be enough to manage this type of data use, as noted in the article. 🗺 ## Facts - Kind: [Page](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/kinds/page/) ## Appears in - [WT169: Weekly Thing #169 / Ted Lasso, Think for Yourself, Range](https://weekly.thingelstad.com/archive/169/), Recommended Links ## Saved the same week - [How to Buy Gifts That People Actually Want - Will Patrick](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/c3d33ef8d707/) (willpatrick.co.uk, December 2, 2020) - [Daring Fireball: M1 Macs: Truth and Truthiness](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/c0f7e5e58664/) (daringfireball.net, December 3, 2020) - [Stripe: Platform of Platforms – Stratechery by Ben Thompson](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/74138a1c8f63/) (stratechery.com, December 6, 2020) - [Fridge Magnets](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/a65eac5fc182/) (frij.io, December 6, 2020) - [Beaker Browser](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/0e85268bef9a/) (beakerbrowser.com, December 6, 2020) ## Elsewhere - Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://nrkbeta.no/2020/12/03/my-phone-was-spying-on-me-so-i-tracked-down-the-surveillants/
