Frank Chimero · App Sprawl

I just kept nodding reading Chimero's article on software and app sprawl. I specifically appreciate his example since I am a Headspace subscriber and I have no interest in all of the additional stuff they have layered into the experience. It has made the application less usable for me. For now, the content is still differentiated enough that I don't want to jump ship. But when Facebook goes down and I cannot login to meditate, or when I can’t find what I’m looking for because there is a big sleep button and a focus area, it is frustrating. Oh, and now John Legend is their Chief Music Officer. What? 🤷‍♂️

I then flip the channel and use something like Oak which is like a case study in simple and minimal and it is like a breath of fresh air.

It seems sometimes we cannot let well enough alone.
