# GPS dongle coming for iPhone - Host: [tuaw.com](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/hosts/tuaw.com/) - Saved: December 17, 2007 (2007-12-17T15:00:00Z) - Record: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/5ebb28e10929/ - JSON: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/5ebb28e10929.json ## From the page (probably an excerpt, not Jamie's words) We've posted a couple of times about "virtual" GPS solutions for the iPhone that depend on cell tower identification, but now The partfoundry has announced the real deal. They will be offering a GPS dongle for the iPhone based on the SiRF Star III chipset. Needless to say this will require a jailbroken phone and the software "will be open source/community based." They've already got a prototype working (video embedded after the jump) that can report its location and send it to the Google Maps application. ## Facts - Kind: [Page](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/kinds/page/) ## Same host - [Cha-ching hits 1.2.1](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/19305b4cbb1f/) (tuaw.com, December 3, 2007) - [John Welch's guide to SNMP on Leopard](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/78863807a5af/) (tuaw.com, December 5, 2007) - [Leopard Love: Apple boosts Calculator](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/62cb3456f4a0/) (tuaw.com, December 10, 2007) - [Parallels vs. VMWare: Benchmark results](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/016d68081d06/) (tuaw.com, December 19, 2007) - [IPhone firmware 1.1.3 breaks unlocks](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/cf6754c092df/) (tuaw.com, December 30, 2007) ## Saved the same week - [New Version of Akismet](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/67fbb9714ad1/) (bloggingpro.com, December 17, 2007) - [Jon Stewart Targeting Jan. 7 Return?](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/eec6388aaf39/) (businessinsider.com, December 17, 2007) - [Report from Iowa Part Two: James Madison Rolls Over in His Grave](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/495c182fb102/) (kevinjennings.com, December 18, 2007) - [Pownce Goes Mobile](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/4359541f0392/) (mashable.com, December 18, 2007) - [Google Wants To Index Your Videos](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/312fc0735730/) (techcrunch.com, December 18, 2007) ## Elsewhere - Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.tuaw.com/2007/12/17/gps-dongle-coming-for-iphone/
