# Effective use of OmniFocus: Keep due dates sacred - Host: [sharplet.me](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/hosts/sharplet.me/) - Saved: June 21, 2011 (2011-06-22T02:07:57Z) - Record: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/b0da1a2ad351/ - JSON: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/b0da1a2ad351.json ## What Jamie wrote Why I keep due dates sacred in OmniFocus: > Due dates are a great idea, especially the integration with calendars which gives you notifications when tasks are due. However I began to notice an interesting phenomenon: the more I planned and micromanaged my tasks, the more my notifications would increase. I would sit and list all the things I wanted to get done that day, and then set a due date of today on all of them. Then I would set the next action to be due tomorrow, and the next in two days, etc. What I found was that I perpetually had a little red badge on the app icon telling me how much I still hadnt done. I began to resent the badge. No matter how many tasks I completed, it would always come back again because there was always more to be done tomorrow. This began to really wear me down, and I just started to ignore OmniFocus. I didnt want to see that badge any more, because I never got the satisfaction of saying, Ive completed what I needed to today, now I can relax. ## Facts - Kind: [Page](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/kinds/page/) ## Saved the same week - [Man Robbed Bank for $1, Hoping to Be Sent to Prison, So as to Obtain Health Care](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/aa00fc1b9136/) (9news.com, June 20, 2011) - [Jon Stewart on Fox News Sunday](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/e6027c944c91/) (gothamist.com, June 20, 2011) - [Travel Norway – The Architectural Way](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/c67412770866/) (flylyf.com, June 21, 2011) - [Code Intuition : Effective use of OmniFocus: Keep due dates sacred](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/e11cd4a2e6b6/) (codeintuition.net, June 21, 2011) - [Founder/market fit](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/4bc192cf1523/) (cdixon.org, June 21, 2011) ## Elsewhere - Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://sharplet.me/post/6753096142/effective-use-of-omnifocus-keep-due-dates-sacred
