# Donald Knuth on work habits, problem solving, and happiness - Host: [shuvomoy.github.io](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/hosts/shuvomoy.github.io/) - Saved: May 26, 2022 (2022-05-26T11:21:51Z) - Record: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/b0dbd5631360/ - JSON: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/b0dbd5631360.json ## What Jamie wrote [Donald Knuth](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Knuth) is a major contributor to technology. He is the author of the appropriately titled [The Art of Computer Programming](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Knuth#The_Art_of_Computer_Programming_(TAOCP). I love that he refers to this as Art and not Science. > **Meaning of life.** "I personally think of my belief that God exists although I have no idea what that means. But I believe that there is something beyond human capabilities and it might be some AI. Whatever it is, I do believe that there is something that goes beyond human understanding but that I can try to learn more about how to resonate with whatever that being would like me to do. I strive for that (occasional glimpses of that being) not that I ever think I am going to get close to it. I try to imagine that I am following somebody's wishes and this AI or whatever it is, it is smart enough to give me clues." This collection of excerpts and highlights about how Knuth works is really great. ## Facts - Kind: [Page](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/kinds/page/) ## Appears in - [WT221: Weekly Thing #221 / Rebooting, Incidents, Risk](https://weekly.thingelstad.com/archive/221/), Notable ## Saved the same week - [Where Death Rates Rose the Most During the Pandemic - The New York Times](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/6beaaa177f10/) (nytimes.com, May 26, 2022) - [Helping Ukrainian teachers keep teaching](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/957abd793164/) (blog.google, May 26, 2022) - [4 Hard Things Leaders Do](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/8a060e3d45c8/) (leadershipfreak.blog, May 26, 2022) - [List of school shootings in the United States - Wikipedia](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/19ac5d93259d/) (en.wikipedia.org, May 26, 2022) - [Open Letter to Noam Chomsky (and other like-minded intellectuals) on the Russia-Ukraine war • The Berkeley Blog](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/8f98a5d4c599/) (blogs.berkeley.edu, May 26, 2022) ## Elsewhere - Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://shuvomoy.github.io/blogs/posts/Knuth-on-work-habits-and-problem-solving-and-happiness/
