His review of the Apple Vision Pro is detailed and hits on all the key components. I agree with his view that this is the beginning of something very new. > But the conceptual design of VisionOS lays the foundation for an entirely new direction of interaction design. Just like how the basic concepts of the original Mac interface were exactly right, and remain true to this day. Just like how the original iPhone defined the way every phone in the world now works. > > There is no practical way to surround yourself with multiple external displays with a Mac or PC to give yourself a workspace canvas the size of the workspace in VisionOS. The VisionOS workspace isn't _infinite_, but it feels as close to infinitely large as it could be. It's the world around you. > > And it is very _spatial_. Windows remain anchored in place in the world around you. Set up a few windows, then stand up and walk away, and when you come back, those windows are exactly where you left them. It is uncanny to walk right through them. (From behind, they look white.) You can do seemingly crazy things like put a VisionOS application window outside a real-world window. The whole writeup is a great overview, including the parts that it doesn't do so well. ## Facts - Kind: [Page](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/kinds/page/) ## Appears in - [WT275: Weekly Thing 275 / Vision, Sense, Magic](https://weekly.thingelstad.com/archive/275/), Featured ## Same host - [Daring Fireball: Apple and AI](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/a745c171b7ff/) (daringfireball.net, October 25, 2023) - [Daring Fireball: Vision Pro, Spatial Video, and Panoramic Photos](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/49204efe1cac/) (daringfireball.net, November 12, 2023) - [Daring Fireball: CNBC Gets an Inside Look at an Apple Chip Lab](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/51a823cc9f01/) (daringfireball.net, December 4, 2023) - [Daring Fireball: Apple Sports](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/b92369c48562/) (daringfireball.net, February 21, 2024) - [Daring Fireball: Boring News: Vision Pro Sales Are Going Just About as Expected](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/e3efc8e492f5/) (daringfireball.net, May 6, 2024) ## Saved the same week - [Conducting the ETH Census - by Kyle Waters](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/a69a4b2e14ff/) (coinmetrics.substack.com, February 1, 2024) - [Intel’s Humbling – Stratechery by Ben Thompson](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/fef7968461f7/) (stratechery.com, February 1, 2024) - [The Big Little Guide to Message Queues](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/3c238bd2ba52/) (sudhir.io, February 1, 2024) - [The Endless Acid Banger](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/de78d0db8a6e/) (vitling.xyz, February 1, 2024) - [Hypercritical: Spatial Computing](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/10950cd4d559/) (hypercritical.co, February 1, 2024) ## Elsewhere - Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://daringfireball.net/2024/01/the_vision_pro
