"title": "Why You Should Stop Reading News",
"note": "I’m a big fan of [Cal Newport](https://www.calnewport.com)'s approach to news and practice it myself. I do value being informed, but I don't need to be hyper informed. There is a very real limit to the value of continual news, and being thoughtful on how you limit incoming news is important. And, just as Facebook and social media have figured out how to grab your attention by the scruff of the neck and never let go, so have media companies.\n\nHere is what I do:\n\n1. I subscribe (pay for) three news sources: International, National, and Local.\n2. I do NOT install any apps or allow any push notifications from these services.\n3. I consume the vast majority of the content from these news sources via their email services, where I can read it on my time and without the web of distractions around it.\n\nWorks great for me.",
