Wikidata looks at first blush to be building on the amazing capabilities of Semantic MediaWiki and creating something very similar to Wikimedia Commons but for data. This is exciting on a number of levels. > Wikidata aims to create a free knowledge base about the world that can be read and edited by humans and machines alike. It will provide data in all the languages of the Wikimedia projects, and allow for the central access to data in a similar vein as Wikimedia Commons does for multimedia files. Wikidata is proposed as a new Wikimedia hosted and maintained project. ## Facts - Kind: [Page](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/kinds/page/) ## Same host - [Wikidata - Notes - ContentHandler](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/38aab13deb44/) (meta.wikimedia.org, March 26, 2012) - [Wikidata Logo voting](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/048feaa87fb3/) (meta.wikimedia.org, July 4, 2012) ## Saved the same week - [Anonymous Promises to 'Shut Down the Internet' March 31](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/bcc2eb3416f7/) (gamepolitics.com, March 29, 2012) - [The Ten Commandments of Egoless Programming](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/3e6cea6cd5b5/) (blog.codinghorror.com, March 29, 2012) - [Sample Survey Questions, Answers and Tips](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/ecc394f05a5d/) (constantcontact.com, March 30, 2012) - [Sticker Giant](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/dc1f886987c7/) (stickergiant.com, March 31, 2012) - [FROZBROZ - Minneapolis Craft Ice Cream](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/c3714e8e9cdd/) (frozbroz.com, March 31, 2012) ## Elsewhere - Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikidata
