Our heroine was Marion Stoddart, a woman who in the 1960s spearheaded a cleanup of the massively polluted Nashua River in Central Massachusetts one of the most dramatic environmental success stories in American history. Amazingly, however, the river was her second choice for an advocacy project. She had originally wanted to help with the adoption of Korean children, and could have gone down that path, but she decided she'd get "too emotionally involved" to do a good job and thus became an eco-pioneer instead. ## Facts - Kind: [Page](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/kinds/page/) ## Same host - [What Is Facebook, Really?](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/097ee12e33c2/) (blogs.hbr.org, February 3, 2011) - [How Are You Feeling?](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/74cb3538e3a3/) (blogs.hbr.org, February 22, 2011) - [Groupon Doomed by Too Much of a Good Thing](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/d35d9df17c84/) (blogs.hbr.org, August 19, 2011) - [I Don't Understand What Anyone Is Saying Anymore](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/459090c0790d/) (blogs.hbr.org, December 9, 2011) - [Nine Ways Successful People Defeat Stress](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/0a397d10e512/) (blogs.hbr.org, December 18, 2012) ## Saved the same week - [Special Offer for Our Valued Readers](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/693b7216b762/) (newyorker.com, April 26, 2011) - [Fuck You, Tiny Wings](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/022c3e51e91f/) (log.maniacalrage.net, April 26, 2011) - [Hunchs Statistical Profiles of Self-Described Mac vs. PC People](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/6c26ac152620/) (ebay.com, April 26, 2011) - [What to Do When "Doing What You Love" Isn't an Option](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/e76baceeeb9e/) (lifehacker.com, April 26, 2011) - [Dropbox Attempts To Kill Open Source Project](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/45ce63a0168f/) (razorfast.com, April 27, 2011) ## Elsewhere - Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/http://blogs.hbr.org/2011/04/dont-do-what-you-love/
