# Bitcoin miners are losing $19,000 on every BTC produced as difficulty drops 7.8% - Host: [coindesk.com](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/hosts/coindesk.com/) - Saved: April 16, 2026 (2026-04-16T23:49:54Z) - Record: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/fed9672c61a1/ - JSON: https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/fed9672c61a1.json ## What Jamie wrote Bitcoin intentionally drops miner rewards over time. The math is sensible. In the early days miners should be compensated through direct mining activity, but over time Bitcoin should transition to fees paid for transactions. That transition is still in front of the Bitcoin ecosystem and given that Bitcoin has landed more as digital gold than cash, the transaction fees may be hard to get profitable? ## Facts - Kind: [Page](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/kinds/page/) ## Appears in - [WT344: Weekly Thing 344 / Mythos, Artemis, Signals](https://weekly.thingelstad.com/archive/344/), Briefly ## Same host - [FTX’s Collapse Was a Crime, Not an Accident](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/3cc36eb82dd9/) (coindesk.com, December 6, 2022) - [Solana’s Top NFT Projects DeGods and Y00ts to Migrate Chains](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/810e0bc056a2/) (coindesk.com, January 5, 2023) - [Ethereum’s Shanghai Upgrade Is Complete, Starting New Era of Staking Withdrawals](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/46bd50be26a5/) (coindesk.com, April 13, 2023) - [Blockchain Domain-Name Provider Ethereum Name Service Pushes Back Against Rival's Patent](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/edddd960ca80/) (coindesk.com, December 5, 2023) - [8 Reasons a Strategic Crypto Reserve Is a Bad Idea - Nic Carter](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/e9c625a799a0/) (coindesk.com, March 10, 2025) ## Saved the same week - [How I run multiple $10K MRR companies on a $20/month tech stack | Steve Hanov's Blog](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/9b386a66f92a/) (stevehanov.ca, April 16, 2026) - [Cowork - How to AI](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/c06fe5ff2059/) (ruben.substack.com, April 16, 2026) - [Introduction to Nintendo DS Programming](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/e00fd4badb9b/) (patater.com, April 16, 2026) - [Working with agents doesn't feel like flow — Bill de hÓra](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/7ddcacc6d9dd/) (dehora.net, April 16, 2026) - [Introducing Apple Frames 4 - MacStories](https://links.thingelstad.xyz/links/dc3c53fb5a96/) (macstories.net, April 16, 2026) ## Elsewhere - Wayback Machine: https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/03/22/bitcoin-miners-are-losing-usd19-000-on-every-btc-produced-as-difficulty-drops-7-8
